Carpentry and Joinery students build easels for Letterheads 2024

Nescot's Carpentry and Joinery students were commissioned to build easels for Letterheads, an international festival for traditional sign writers.

Level 1 and 2 students under the guidance of their tutor worked on the project building 18 easels to set specifications for the sign writers convention.

Level 1 student Jack who enrolled on the course following a Saturday Academy Carpentry workshop at the college said, “I’m looking at getting an apprenticeship and this project has been a good learning experience.”

Another student Liam added that it was great to be working on something different and doing a project that involved working with precision to a set brief.

“Work experience is an essential part of the course”, said Jim Murphy, Carpentry tutor at Nescot.

“Projects like these offer our students the opportunity to work for a commissioned job and apply their technical knowledge, attention to detail, communication and teamwork skills to the best of their abilities."

Peter Anthony from Freestyle Sign Studios said, “We are delighted that Nescot Carpentry students are making the easels as part of their scheme of work. They meet our specifications and to a very high standard.”

Lettering enthusiasts from various countries around the world meet once a year to celebrate the art of hand lettering, share their skills, learn new ones and support each other. International festival Letterheads 2024, was hosted by Freestyle Sign Studios at the Horton Arts Centre in Epsom from 21-23 April.
