Nescot students were recognised for their success and achievement at the Student of the Term Awards ceremony this week (18.04.24).

At the ceremony, 25 students who were nominated by their tutors, were awarded for their dedication, commitment, hard-work and excellent progress during the Spring term.

The awards recognise student achievement and work ethic as well as those who have overcome challenges or have helped their peers.

Nominated students along with their tutors and Heads of Department were invited to the celebration event at the college’s Skills Park, where they were presented with a certificate and a gift voucher by Julie Kapsalis, Principal and CEO.

Presenting the awards, Julie Kapsalis said, “A heartfelt congratulations to all our Student of the Term awardees. You all deserve recognition for your dedication, passion and hard work. Your awards are well deserved and you should be very proud of your outstanding achievements.

“Thank you to all our staff who have nominated students for this recognition and for your unwavering guidance and support in shaping these remarkable students.”

Animal Care student Rebecca, was nominated by her tutor for consistently approaching each day with a positive mindset, pushing herself out of her comfort zone and supporting her peers. “She is the kind of student every teacher hopes to have in their classroom. She even took on additional work to train the college’s wellbeing dog, Rhubarb, during her lunchtimes”, said her tutor Marcus Latter. Rebecca added, “It’s such a good experience and my tutors are so helpful. Rhubarb is lovely!”

Craig a student on our Beauty Therapy course, said, “It’s a privilege to receive this award and it means a lot. I am progressing well in my course, thanks to the support and guidance from my tutors.” He was nominated for his genuine passion and dedication to his studies.

Creative Media and Esports student, Jessica, was nominated by her tutor for investing a remarkable amount of effort into her final major project and taking in her stride the challenge of mastering new software. “I didn’t expect to get this award, it’s an absolute honour. I couldn’t have done it without my tutor who has been very supportive. I’m loving this college!”, said Jessica.

Catering student Alexander was recognised as a valuable asset within his group and for his leadership qualities and said, “It’s an amazing course and my tutors are very helpful.”

Hollie, a student on our Early Years course was nominated for her academic excellence and supporting her peers. She said it felt nice to be appreciated and that she was enjoying the course.

Travel and Tourism student, Brooke said that her hard-work paid off and she was very proud. She was nominated for her conscientious dedication despite juggling multiple responsibilities beyond college.

Eloise a student on our Hair and Media Make-up course was nominated for being kind, helpful and caring towards her peers, producing work of the highest standard and getting fully involved in additional activities and her work experience placement. She said, “Getting this award boosts my confidence and is a such a wonderful experience.”

Julie also gave out the Principal’s Award to students who have achieved great things in their coursework, work placement and for going above and beyond:

  • The first award was presented to Donna, a student on our Supported Internship programme for her exceptional hard-work, continued commitment and the invaluable support that she offers to her supervisor.
  • The next awards were presented to Gracie, Ella and Tia who have contributed significantly to the college’s various open events. They were commended for their dedication, enthusiasm and helpfulness for the events throughout the year.
